Requirements for
applying for temporary and permanent electric service
- The temporary services permit must be purchased at DES
before starting any electrical work.
- You must provide a copy of your sewer permit before
any permits may be purchased.
- You must provide the 911 address which must be posted
at the service location.
- The permanent service entrance and the pole for
the temporary service must be located by an authorized representative of DES
before beginning work.
- We encourage the purchase of the rough-in and final
permits at the same time as the temporary permit if they are required.
- The permit charges are based on the size of the
service in amps.
- The person who purchased the permit should schedule
the inspections by contacting DES prior to the regular inspection days. Please
have your permit number when you contact us. The state electrical inspector is
currently available on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- The electrician or contractor must pay a connection
fee at the time the permit is purchased if the temporary service is to be
energized after passing the state inspection.
- The rough-in inspection is to be requested before the dry
wall is hung.
- Schedule this inspection the same way as the
temporary inspection.
- The final inspection for the permanent service is
requested upon completion of all electrical work at the location.
- This inspection is scheduled the same way as the
previous inspections.
- DES personnel will connect the service to our lines
as soon as possible after the job has passed the final inspection.
- The service will be left off unless a connection fee
for permanent service has been paid by the person responsible for future
charges at the location. This person is often the property owner, renter, or
contractor.
- The responsible person must present his/her Social
Security card, drivers license, or other adequate I.D. and pay a connection
charge to have the electric service energized. There is a discount on the
connection charge if at least a one day notice is given to DES before the
service is required to be connected.
- You must notify us at least 72 hours prior to
installation of underground service. The underground conduit may be installed
prior to the final electrical inspection, however you must have your meter base
and conduit installed to DES specifications.
